50 years ago, our company was incorporated under the name Piedmont Trane Air Conditioning in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

Half a century in business later, our company has grown and evolved into a regional leader in facility services focused exclusively on helping commercial, industrial and government organizations operate and maintain their buildings in a safe and efficient manner.

We could not be more proud and excited to celebrate our history, our success and all of the accomplishments achieved thanks to our team, customers and industry partners.

Important Milestones That Have Shaped Our History

 

 

May 1971

Founding owner, Rick Sylvester incorporated Piedmont Trane Air Conditioning (PTAC) located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

 

 

May 1972

Larry Kelly purchases PTAC from Rick Sylvester, with 8 employees and a total activity of $146,814.

 

 

October 1975

Larry’s brother Edward (Buddy) Kelly purchases stock and joined PTAC as a partner.

 

 

January 1984

Piedmont Trane Air Conditioning becomes a LINC franchise.

 

 

May 1984

Piedmont Trane Air Conditioning becomes Piedmont Air Conditioning.

 

 

August 1990

PAC purchases a second building for the growing commercial service division.

 

 

May 1993

PAC expanded west across the state of North Carolina and officially opened the Greensboro, NC office.

 

 

December 1993

PAC growth continues to the east and the opening of the Greenville, NC office.

 

 

April 1996

Piedmont opens it fourth branch office in Wilmington, NC.

 

 

April 1997

PAC sells its residential service division, enabling the focus and growth of the commercial and industrial market in both service and installation.

 

 

April 2000

Piedmont Air Conditioning designed and built its current headquarters in Raleigh at 1031 Nowell Road.
